Student Assistant Buyer - Gifts & Hard Goods
The University of Arizona Campus Store is currently looking for a student that is eager for the opportunity to learn more about retail buying, merchandising and customer service in a retail business setting to fill the role of Student Assistant Buyer. The Student Assistant Buyer provides support to the buyer. This includes data entry of purchase orders, verification of deliveries, maintaining all required lists and merchandising duties. They will also help merchandise the floor as needed. This assistant will be for the Gifts/hard goods department.
FUNCTIONS/TASKS:
- Assist in analysis of sales/vendor performance, and open-to-buy plan, to determine needed inventory and markdowns.
- Attain knowledge of products and vendors in assigned category.
- Assist with analysis of open-to-buy, to determine inventory and markdown needs.
- Work with buyers to reorder inventory and source new products.
- Opportunity to meet with vendors and learn about buying methods.
- Utilize the inventory management system to create/modify item records and create purchase orders.
- Process special orders and custom orders for customers
- Assist in product placement and merchandising.
- Will take a lead role in the semi-annual physical inventory of merchandise (planning, mapping, counting, reconciling)
- Create, implement, and conduct inventory cycle count schedule.
- Assist in training new sales associate staff and lead by example with customer service and product expertise
- Assist customers with their selection and answer questions about store product
- Train and become proficient with the Point of Sale
- Varying duties and responsibilities depend on position, including special sales events (i.e. Back to School, New Student Orientation, State Fair, Football/tailgate, Postseason sports, holiday sales, etc.)
- NetSuite Operations
- Complete Transfer orders to ensure the sales floor is properly filled.
- Work on Open items to correct inventory that is not ringing up correctly.
- Assist buyer in printing reports: on order, stock on hand, sales, aging reports, etc.
- Analyze weekly sales reports and inventory to create suggested reorders to review with supervisor.
- Support merchandise floor change
- Data entry to build PO's which includes creating SKUs within the inventory system
- Ensure POs are in system at time of orders to ensure proper OTB management.
- Create and maintain PO tracker each month to ensure on time deliveries and cancelling past due product.
- Review open purchase order report and cancel old purchase orders as directed by supervisor.
- Print/Send POs to vendors and assist with vendor communication.
- Assist buyers in managing inventory and Open-to-Buy.
- Assist on sales floor, Receiving & Backstock when needed.
- Assist supervisor/leads with training of new sales associates if needed.
- Maintain and update vendor contact list.
- Support buyer in building strong relationships with all Campus Store departments for achieving best workflows for all.
