Nonprofit Executive Assistant


***This internship is reserved for students eligible for the summer internship stipend. Students eligible will have been notified via email from Student Engagement & Career Development.***

The Nonprofit Executive Assistant will have the opportunity to learn about nonprofit business administration, grant writing and grants management, fundraising and fund development, website content development, social media and e-commerce integration.
The internship will involve training in hands-on projects that will include: community food production, school gardens, nutrition education, compost production and integration, food waste reduction, arid-lands plant nursery, retail food cooperative, and more.
Work experience will include research and development of written, digital, photo and video communications, compost production, food systems education and exploration of waste reduction strategies, social media production, and executive level job shadowing for a small nonprofit organization.

GARDEN, Inc. is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that serves as a community connector and business incubator in the arenas of arts, education, environment and healing in Southern Arizona and around the world. Since 2009, we have served close to 100 artists, environmentalists, nonprofits, businesses and grassroots organizations with nonprofit consultation, grant writing, project development and networking that has helped to raise over $4 Million in philanthropic funding. We serve Native American, Jewish, indigenous and environmentally-forward communities that are working to help restore and heal the earth.

Position summary

We are seeking a self-directed, highly motivated, and responsible intern who can commit to 10 hours of work per week to serve as an assistant to the Executive Director of a small nonprofit organization. The intern will gain hands-on experience through job-shadowing, completing tasks and research assignments, assisting with website and social media content and graphics updates, and documenting our organizational history and current projects.

Position reports to:

Susan Silverman, Executive Director, GARDEN, Inc.

Location:

All work will take place remotely with the option for in-person field-trips, site visits and office hours at community-based locations (near the UA).

Timeline:

The internship will take place for 12 weeks during Summer 2023 with a flexible start date the week of May 15, 2023.


Role and essential duties:

The intern will serve as a Nonprofit Executive Assistant and will be responsible for learning, researching, documenting, experiencing, writing and innovating through digital communications (website development, social media and fundraising campaigns) on behalf of GARDEN, Inc. Hands-on learning will include tours and active work days at local school and community gardens. Training and essential duties will include:
·        Introduction to Grant writing and Fundraising
·        Research, writing, information gathering, photography/video production
·        Website revisions, social media campaigns
·        Evaluation and assessment of the internship

Required Skills / Qualifications: 

The intern will require strong interpersonal and written communication skills, a strong social media skill set (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube), ability to multi-task, essential business skills and a smartphone. Must be in good academic standing and be open to working on a flexible schedule both remotely and in-person.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in WordPress, Microsoft Office and Google apps preferred.

In this role, you will gain experience with the many steps involved in creating a social media campaign form planning to execution, learning elements that go into grant acquisition and management, fundraising, using Wordpress, Microsoft Word, Excel, and the experience of working within a flexible and mission-driven organization.
