Human Resources Intern

The City of Tucson Human Resources Department is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented and creative individual for our Recruitment and Retention Office. The recently created division is fast-paced, emphasizing collaboration, creativity, and process improvement. Our mission focuses on delivering exceptional services to the people of Tucson.
We are seeking a creative individual who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment while gaining real-world experience with recruiting, payroll, employee development, and the coordination of HR policies and procedures. The HR Intern will also gain experience supporting the HR Recruitment team in day-to-day administrative tasks.
The position reports to –
Human Resources – Recruitment and Retention – Matthew L. O’Connor (Lead HR Analyst)
Location –
All work will take place during two office days and one remote day. The in-office days will be located at Tucson City Hall.
Timeline –
The Internship will occur during the Summer of 2022, with a flexible start date of June 1, 2022.
Roles and essential duties –
- Throughout the summer, you will engage and collaborate in the following functions:
- Conduct recruitment and selection processes by discussing staffing needs with departments.
- Brainstorming a strategic plan for our online and social media platforms to reach possible candidates.
- Assists with the development and proctoring of employment exams.
- Participate and assist other departments in career fairs and recruitment events.
- Act as a liaison to new hires and assist in onboarding.
- Gather and update our database with new hire information.
- Assist with Recruitment outreach and communications.
Required Skills/Qualifications –
We are looking for a candidate with excellent interpersonal and communication skills to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented atmosphere. Additionally, a solid social media skillset (LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook) would benefit the candidate.

Preferred Qualifications –
Some experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
Physical Requirements –
This position requires working on a computer for shifts of 5-6 hours. Able to safely lift 30 pounds during event set up. Reasonable accommodations may be made for qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
