Museum Registrar Assistant (Internship)

Organization: Dedicated to the preservation and advancement of the art of miniatures, The Mini Time Machine Museum of Miniatures houses a collection of more than 500 historical and contemporary miniatures. This collection includes two and three-dimensional artworks such as dollhouses, room boxes, paintings, sculptures, dioramas, vignettes, scale-models, and more. Scheduling: Must be available to work on Mondays. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are also preferred although not required. 
 
Expected Hours Per Week: All hours must be completed on-site at TMTM, totaling 120 hours between May 16 – August 10, 2022. 4-6 hours must be contributed each Monday; the remaining hours can be contributed based upon a schedule established with the TMTM Registrar. Description:
The goal of this internship is to provide practical, hands-on experience with museum registration and collection management practices. Under the supervision of the TMTM Registrar, the intern will participate in exciting behind-the-scenes museum work, implementing procedures related to the care and stewardship of an art collection. This includes: object handling, exhibition installation and deinstallation, object rehousing and collection storage, cataloging, condition reporting, processing new acquisitions, and preparing incoming loans and loan agreements. The intern will gain familiarity with TMTM’s collection management software, PastPerfect, and will assist with entering data into this database.
 
This internship is well-suited for a motivated undergraduate who has excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and can work both independently and on a team. Previous experience working with a collection management database is beneficial although not required. Monday availability is required because exhibition changes and gallery maintenance occur on Mondays.
 
Qualifications:
·        Research and data entry skills and/or experience
·        Ability to multitask and adapt to a variety of situations
·        Computer fluency including Excel and Word
·        Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
·        Attention to detail
·        Ability to exercise discretion, confidentiality, and independent judgment

Working conditions:
·        Ability to work comfortably and independently with computers and research tools.
·        Ability to learn new skills and procedures for object handling, art conservation, and cataloging.
·        Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time.
Dress requirements: Attire must be clean and appear presentable. Some tasks may require working with materials that can soil clothing. Low cut or strapless blouses, cut-off jeans, tee shirts or hats with printed slogans, running shorts, flip-flops, etc., are considered inappropriate attire. Skirts/shorts/pants should be of an appropriate length and professional looking. 
Location: The Mini Time Machine Museum of Miniatures is in central Tucson on the north side of Camp Lowell Dr. just west of Swan Rd. at 4455 E. Camp Lowell Drive, Tucson, AZ 85712. Ample parking is available on-site and there is a bus stop within walking distance.
The Mini Time Machine Museum of Miniatures is handicap accessible.

Interns at The Mini Time Machine Museum of Miniatures have the opportunity gain hands-on experience working in a museum environment with trained professionals with many years of non-profit and museum experience. Interns will have opportunities to learn more about miniatures while also exploring the history, science, technology, and engineering that is necessary for making small scale items. This internship focuses on behind-the-scenes museum work, implementing procedures related to the care and stewardship of an art collection, and research related to the objects in the TMTM collections.
