Newsletter and Student Engagement Writer Graduate Assistantship (0.25 FTE)

The Graduate Center is seeking a highly qualified graduate student for Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 with the opportunity for continued employment based on performance. The graduate assistant/associate will be responsible for the Graduate Center newsletter and will support the Director and staff in leveraging the newsletter and other tools to raise awareness of the graduate student experience in relation to Graduate Center initiatives. This position will work closely with the Graduate Center Communications and Outreach Graduate Assistant in addition to the Director and staff.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
·        Research and draft articles for the Graduate Center newsletter
·        Manage Graduate Center newsletter distribution and signup
·        Analyze newsletter performance and suggest improvements for greater reach
·        Assess and propose use of technologies or communication strategies to raise awareness of the graduate student experience
·        Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
·        Excellent verbal and written communication skills
·        High level of professionalism
·        Strong computer skills; experience with Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications:
·        Strong English written and oral communication skills in an outreach context
·        Journalist, science communication, public relations, or similar experience
·        Working knowledge of the Drupal website platform
·        Working knowledge of Mail Chimp

Approximate Hours Per Week:
·        0.25 FTE (10 hours/week); 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday
·        Flexible work arrangements, upon request and approval of supervisor
·        Graduate Center events occasionally take place after 5 PM or on weekends. Work schedules will be adjusted based on the work needed and the employee’s schedule.

Benefits:
·        Stipend of $8,559 for the academic year (based on the percent of the appointment time at an annualized rate of $34,234)
