With 18 diverse undergraduate majors, the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences (CALS) is home to a diverse undergraduate student body of new first-year students, transfer students, and international students. In the Fall 2020 semester, CALS anticipates welcoming more than 500 new students. In preparation for the first day of classes in August, all new students will complete an Orientation session with CALS and with the University of Arizona.

These Orientation sessions will begin in an online, virtual environment in May, June and July. The delivery mode for August sessions is yet to be determined. June is the busiest month for Orientation sessions. Student Orientation Leaders (SOL) can expect to work the full 20 hours per week during the month of June. Refer to the Summer 2020 Orientation Dates below. Note: NSO = New Student Orientation (first-year students), TSO = Transfer Student Orientation.

Each Student Orientation Leader will be assigned a specific group of students, based on Orientation date, to welcome, connect with, and maintain regular communication before, during, and after the Orientation session. Over the first week of employment, CALS will provide training for Student Orientation Leaders.

Position Duties:
· Student Orientation Leaders will be assigned specific Orientation sessions. During those sessions, SOLs will be responsible for facilitating student interaction during each Orientation session.
· Responsible for leading specific conversations on targeted areas of focus (e.g. research, clubs, internship experiences, etc).
· SOLs will communicate with their assigned Orientation session students in three phases: advance (before Orientation session), day-of session facilitation, and continued communication after the student has completed their Orientation session.
· Each Student Orientation Leader will build group identities for their assigned cohort of students so that students from different sessions can have a way to connect with other students after orientation
· Gathering student photos through digital communication/taking group photos if in-person
· Posting to CALS social media about student groups
· Hand-writing postcards/letters to send to assigned cohort of students
· Manage D2L discussions related to orientation
· Hold “office hours” through Zoom on scheduled dates/times
· Guide students on how to search for classes, add courses to the shopping cart, and how to register for classes
· Assist students with making advising appointments (e.g. using Trellis and/or other appointment system)
· Documenting all student interactions to a shared file

Position Qualifications:
· Applicant must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences at the University of Arizona.
· Applicant must have cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or higher
· Applicant must have a record of student leadership (e.g. club officer, leadership organization member, etc).
· Familiarity with Desire to Learn (D2L), UAccess, Zoom, and the CALS website
· Excellent communication skills
· Must be detail oriented
· Must be capable of working both collaboratively and independently, with minimal supervision
· Must have access to a computer and consistent access to wifi
· Must have general proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
