Job Shadow in Health Care Advocacy at Non-Profit Association (San Diego, CA)

Since 1956, the Hospital Association of San Diego and Imperial Counties (HASD&IC) has effectively advanced the interests of area hospitals. We are a non-profit organization representing 38 hospitals and integrated health systems in the two-county region. Members range from small, rural hospitals to large, urban medical centers; include not-for-profits (46%), district (12%), investor-owned (18%), University (6%), and city/county/state/federal (18%) facilities; and represent over 8,500 licensed beds. HASD&IC’s board of directors represents all member sectors and provides policy direction to ensure that the interests of member hospitals and health systems are preserved and promoted.

The host for this opportunity is CEO & President, Dimitrios Alexiou!

The shadow agenda will depend on the day, as there are various meetings either to host or attend representing hospital/health systems. Students will get the opportunity to learn more about the following:

   - What is the Hospital Association and what do we do?
   - What issues are we working on?
   - Depending on the day, attend meetings with CEO.
   - Have lunch with the team
   - Have the opportunity to ask questions.

Students who may benefit most are those interested in healthcare and/or policy/advocacy work.

This shadow is available on January 6th, 7th, 13th, or 14th.

This is part of the UA Job Shadow Program (JSP), a one-of-a-kind opportunity to gain firsthand exposure to a career/field and be mentored by actual professionals. Unless otherwise noted, the experience is ONE DAY and will take place during late Winter Break, January 6-14, 2020. This is not an employment opportunity and future employment with the organization is not associated with this program. You may apply to no more than 5 JSP opportunities, and if accepted, you must attend a JSP orientation before receiving the contact information for your host.
