Job Shadow in Entertainment / Television Creation & Production (Burbank, CA)

The host for this opportunity is Wendy Mericle, an Executive Producer/Showrunner & UA Alum!

Wendy says: "I'm a writer/showrunner currently on an overall deal with Disney/ABC Studios. My day-to-day at the moment includes developing projects for various outlets (currently ABC and Hulu), taking meetings, reading and optioning material for projects, and of course, writing. As a showrunner on a deal, I have a tiny staff right now, but in January, I might have a show going into production, which would give a student even more insight into how television gets made."

SHADOW INFO:

  • The length of this shadow would likely be 1-2 days, anywhere from 4-8 hours per day.
  • The student will get a chance to visit and explore the Disney lot in Burbank, work with my development associate who will walk them through our development tracking system, her day-to-day looking for material to option, and how she gives notes on our current pilots.
  • Depending on the day and what's going on, the student might also get a window into the network development process (from the writer's perspective), and possibly some insight into the pilot pre-production process involved in staffing and casting a network pilot.

This shadow is for anyone who is interested in the entertainment industry, and especially anyone who aspires to be a writer/creator/showrunner should definitely apply. This opportunity is ONLY available January 13 & 14th!!!

This is part of the UA Job Shadow Program (JSP), a one-of-a-kind opportunity to gain firsthand exposure to a career field and be mentored by actual professionals. Unless otherwise noted, the experience is one day long and will take place sometime during late Winter Break, January 2-14, 2020. This is not an employment opportunity and future employment with the organization is not associated with this program. You may apply to no more than 5 JSP opportunities per session, and if accepted, you must attend a JSP orientation before receiving the contact information for your host.
