Job Shadow in Broadcast Journalism (Tucson, AZ)

KGUN9 is an E.W. Scripps-owned television station. KGUN has a reputation of producing some of the finest professionals in our business, as our Nine On Your Side journalists are working all over the country and beyond.

The host for this opportunity is Martha Serda, Assistant News Director and UA Alum!

We strongly believe in giving students a good overall view of what it is like to work in television and the demands of digital evolutions in 2019 and the coming years. If you are interested in reporting, digital reporting or producing, this is the shadow for you! We will assign each student with a journalist who best fits what they hope to do someday. Our team is very knowledgeable about what it takes to achieve your dream. (Spoiler alert: It includes hard work, mentoring, and drive.) We have one mission, and that's to serve the community first; everything we do daily is aimed at informing and occasionally entertaining the people who watch our broadcast every night. We take this responsibility very seriously and never take for granted that we do is, at its core, a service.

Possible Shadow Agenda:
*You will be introduced to the journalist assigned to you.
*You will most likely go out on a story and get to see firsthand how the story comes together from beginning to end.
*We can accommodate a full 8 hours and even move you around to a few jobs during the day to learn about everyone's job.
***The public gets to see the main anchors only, but beyond those few folks appearing on air, there is a giant team making it happen behind the scenes.

We look forward to having a few interested future journalists spend time with us.

This shadow would be most beneficial for those considering journalism as a career, and is only available on January 7th, 8th, or 9th.
