Design Engineer 1 (HQ - Olathe, KS)

At Garmin, you do more as a design engineer than sit at a desk working on schematics. You create. You build. You DESIGN. From building printed circuit board layouts to working with various equipment (multimeters, power supplies, oscilloscopes and more), you will design and build prototypes, solder and develop your own tests to help us with our ultimate goal – to create products that solve complex problems and make people’s lives safer, healthier and more enjoyable.
 
We are looking for a full time Design Engineer to design and develop basic analog along with other RF circuits, equipment and systems at our headquarters in Olathe, Kansas. In this role, you’ll also be responsible for performing basic schematic design and PCB layout and complete basic troubleshooting and debugging of electronic circuits and other systems. Other essential functions include:
 
  • Design test boards and circuit modifications to test design improvements
  • Test circuits designed by other engineers and document the test results
  • Partner with more experienced Design Engineers to effectively complete design projects
  • Communicates status of work clearly providing visibility to supervisor or mentor
  • May be responsible for planning own technical work
  • Applies design standards and procedures to implement basic designs
  • Learns how to use and apply engineering tools relevant for performing the essential functions of this job description


Qualifications

 
Qualified candidates for this role will possess a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering (BSEE, BSCE) from a four-year college or university, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA. Other requirements include:
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must demonstrate the capability to apply design standards and procedures to develop basic analog, digital and/or RF designs including simulations, schematics, PCB layouts and evaluation
Previous work or internship experience with circuit design for consumer or aviation products is highly preferred.
