Job Shadow in Mechanical Engineering (Sierra Vista, AZ)

The main focus is the sustainment of the Hunter Unmanned Arial System (UAS). This system utilizes an Unmanned Arial Vehicle (UAV) and shelter. This UAV is used by the government at overseas locations in support of the US Army for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) and has over 200,000 hours of flight time. As an aging airframe, it requires upgrades in systems and payloads as well as focus on obsolescence issues. There are over 250 persons employed on site and the engineering department has a staff of about 50 engineers with disciplines in aerospace, mechanical, reliability, software and systems engineering. The site is located in Sierra Vista, AZ and is in the Technology Services Sector of Northrop Grumman. The main mission is to support the war fighter overseas utilizing Government Owned, Contractor Operated (GOCO) sites.

The host for this opportunity is Christopher Thomas, a UA Alumni and Mechanical Design Manager!

Schedule of shadow is as follows:
1. Site tour
2. Overview of Hunter UAS Program
3. Shadowing a mechanical engineer through his day including but not limited to resolving issues in design or manufacturing, creating new designs or drawings, reviewing drawings, attending drawing review meetings.
4. Manager overview of type of projects are being worked in the mechanical engineering department.

This opportunity is only available one day between January 6-10th. Lunch will be provided.
