AmeriCorps Youth Engagement Specialist

I. Organizational Purpose and Background
The Pima County Public Library (PCPL) serves the literacy needs of the residents of Pima County and continues to build strong community partnerships to create cross-spectrum learning opportunities in collaborative settings and provide a vast quantity of additional services at its 26 branches. The AmeriCorps State Member will support programming for youth aged 3-18. The member will aim to improve kits used in PCPL activities that aim to increase hands-on STEM education, growth mindset, early literacy, and connected learning.

II. Project Focus Areas and Activities

A. Align and update currently used learning kits with programming: The
AmeriCorps State member will review PCPL programming and curriculum and
the associated kits. They will update kits as needed and standardize kits and
instructions across branches

B. Create online training materials for staff: The AmeriCorps State member will
create written training materials and film 2-4-minute training videos on kits for
library staff. These materials will be available on line on demand for staff
implementing youth programming.

C. Present kit programs to children and teens: The AmeriCorps State member
will coordinate and schedule times at library branches to present kit activities to
youth and teens. They will also evaluate programming so that library can
continuously improve materials.
