School District Auditor

Would you like to assess Arizona school districts and make recommendations to help them become more accountable and efficient? Our school district performance audits have a strong financial component to them and meet the experience requirements for CPA certification. In addition to assisting school districts to operate more responsibly, you may also help produce the annual state-wide report analyzing school district spending at both the state and individual district levels or as part of a team conducting special studies requested by the Legislature. You will find our work to be engaging, rewarding, and making a positive difference throughout the State!

Auditor I's and II's assist in conducting performance audits of school districts and special studies related to educational finance and operations. These audits provide the Legislature and the public with information on the use of public monies and identify best practices or make recommendations to the school districts to improve operations. The Division of School Audits conducts audits in accordance with generally accepted government auditing standards.

Qualifications:
The ideal applicant will have one of the following: 
·       A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or in a field emphasizing analytical skills, and research and organization of data, such as Global Management, Business Administration, or Business Analytics with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Students within 6 months of graduation will also be considered.
·       A master's degree in a field emphasizing analytical skills, research, and organization of data, such as Public Administration, Accounting, or Global Business Administration. 

In addition, candidates should possess the following:
Willingness to travel out of town during the week approximately 5 to 10 percent of the time.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Working knowledge of Windows, spreadsheets, and database software.

Starting Salary: 
Depending on your experience, you could be hired as either a:
School District Auditor I:
$50,000 (Bachelor's degree)
$53,000 (Master's degree, CPA certification, or 150 qualifying credit hours)

School District Auditor II:
$53,800 (Bachelor's degree)
​$56,800 (Master's degree, CPA certification, or 150 qualifying credit hours)
