Job Shadow in News / Media (Phoenix)

We are Arizona's Family - a news station (and duopoly) - providing viewers news and information on TV, digital, and social platforms.

The host for this opportunity is the Assistant News Director, Kathy, a 1995 University of Arizona Media Arts Alum! Her favorite thing about where she works is "Telling stories that impact people and their communities...and working with such a great group of journalists."

During this job shadow experience, you will learn the behind the scenes work of a News network. The student may follow different members of the team throughout the day.. to learn what all the different workgroups do... Or they can focus on one specific area of expertise.. we can structure the day differently for students.

During the shadow experience, you will have the opportunity to shadow:
  • producers
  • directors
  • reporters
  • photographers
  • editors
  • digital teams

The available shadow dates are Tuesday-Thursday, March 5-7, 2019.

This opportunity would be beneficial for any student interested in journalism or digital news.

This is part of the UA Job Shadow Program (JSP). The JSP is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to gain first-hand exposure to a career field and be mentored by actual professionals. Unless otherwise noted, the experience is ONE DAY LONG and will take place sometime during Spring Break, March 4-8, 2019. This is not an employment opportunity and future employment with the organization is not associated with this program. You may apply to no more than 5 JSP opportunities, and if accepted, you must attend a JSP orientation before receiving the contact information for your host.
