Job Shadow in Civil Engineering, Environmental/Utilities in Escondido, CA

The Indian Health Service is part of the broader Department of Health & Human Services of the Federal government. Engineering opportunities within HHS exist in several agencies (IHS, EPA, FDA, CDC, etc.) These positions include both civilian and active duty U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps positions.

You’ll shadow a UA alumnus (BS in Civil Engineering 2006 & MS in Engineering Management, 2016). The student shadow opportunity would include:
  • A tour of the Escondido, CA office
  • A presentation providing an overview of Sanitation Facilities Construction design engineer and O&M consultant roles within the Indian Health Service
  • A brief overview of the Commissioned Corps
  • An opportunity to interview design and O&M professionals.
Depending on schedules the shadow opportunity would likely also include a field visit to a tribal reservation for construction inspection and/or O&M assistance/troubleshooting.

This is part of the UA Job Shadow Program (JSP). The JSP is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to gain first-hand exposure to a career field and be mentored by actual professionals. Unless otherwise noted, the experience is one day long and will take place sometime during Spring Break, March 5-9. This is not an employment opportunity and future employment with the organization is not associated with this program. You may apply to no more than 5 JSP opportunities, and if accepted, you must attend a JSP orientation before receiving the contact information for your host. For more information, please visit
