Border Patrol Agents are sworn federal law enforcement officers that serve as guardians of America's borders. With the primary mission of anti-terrorism, BPAs are responsible for tracking, finding, and apprehending individuals that enter the United States illegally and searching for contraband such as drugs, weapons of mass effect and weapons of mass destruction.

BPAs receive full government benefits (medical, dental, life insurance, 401K (TSP), pensions, etc.). The BPA position has a 20-year service requirement for retirement. Beginning salary without pay enhancements: $40,511 - $51,424 (will vary depending on entry-level grade). Border Patrol Agents may receive up to 25% of their base salary annually in addition to base salary. All BPAs are guaranteed to promote to GS-12 within a few years of entering the service (minimum base salary of $72,168).
